GLSEN Pittsburgh is requesting your help and monetary aid in combatting the many problems facing LGBT youth in schools across Southwestern Pennsylvania. According to GLSEN National’s 2011 School Climate Survey, over 70% of LGBT students reported feeling unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation or gender identity and in the state of Pennsylvania alone, an appalling one in ten students has been physically assaulted for the same reasons. GLSEN Pittsburgh’s mission is to fight these injustices through education, leadership and advocacy.
We are run by an all volunteer team composed of students, interns and dedicated members of the Pittsburgh community. Currently, we work to provide many programs that support LGBT youth in school by engaging students, we are training education professionals, and we are creating a more inclusive and tolerant school environment that values every child.
All of us have been exposed to bullying and the intolerance of others and your donation to GLSEN Pittsburgh goes a long way towards providing safer environments for vulnerable students all over Southwestern Pennsylvannia.
